Panoramic Image

This is my series of photos that I used for my panoramic image. What better explains winter than snow covered woods in the freezing winter season. This image is taken in my yard at mid-afternoon. Some of the lighting changed fromn photo to photo, but overall I think they combine to one image nicely. I color balanced the image and changed the highlights and shadows to improve the quality.

Macro Photo

For this photo I used the macro setting on my camera, it blurred the closest object and made the rest of the scene clear. The crystal in the front is the focal point but guides the viewer's eye to the back of the photo because of the angle of the objects. I also like how the natural light in the window was captured throught the crystals to add the natural light to the rest of the picture.

Multiple People

This muliple people photo was taken in the living room off of a balcony to give a different perspective instead of straight on. It makes the photo more interesting and creates a birds eye view.

This is my first muliple people photo. I went to Starbucks with Tori and so I decided it would be neat to take multiples of her for this project. Some of the copies of Tori are talking to another Tori. Others are drinking coffee, staring, or cleaning up. If you're wondering what that white-yellow thing is in the photo, it was a cone because the floor was slippery.

Lorie Novak Emulation

This photo in the series of three is to represent the happy and not so serious side of a sister friendship. I changed the opacity, contrast, and dodged some areas that needed a highlight. I think this captures the esscence of what Lorie Novak is all about. She uses family photos an incorporates them in nature.

For this photo I decided that family was the theme, so I captured two subjects together. They are actually sisters! I wanted a more serious picture to show the serious side of a sister relationship. I again had these subjects appear in nature being transparent with uneven edges like Novak.

Since Lorie Novak is known for her people in nature, I decided that it would be neat to emulate her photos by making my subjects transparent with an uneven edge. Novak's subjects make one wonder what the subject is thinking. I believe that my series of three have captured the emotions of love, tranquility and subjects who are deep in thought. This photo was enhanced with contrast and dodged in areas of her face so it would show up. The layer with the girl's face was moved over in front of a nature scene to emulate Novak.

Lorie Novak

Lorie Novak started by accdidentally running a roll of film through her camera twice . The combined images were her breakthrough that began her exploration of combining time and places. She began taking her own family images and examined how photos shape out memories. Novak created color photographic prints from montaged slides projected onto the bare walls of empty rooms. She chose images for their emotional evocation of familial relationships and childhood. Eventually, she added images from media, creating a chronological and cultural context dor her collected family memories. By putting together scenes and family photos Novak has been able to create interesting and intriging photos.

Gregory Crewdson

Gregory Crewson was born on September 26, 1962. As an American photographer he is best know for his very unique, elaborate and surreal scenes of many homes and neighborhoods. His work is less like photographs and more like captured scenes from movies. In the mid 1980s Crewdson studied photography at SUNY Purchase, near Port Chester, NY. He went to Yale and got his Master of Fine Arts. He is currently a part of the faculty at Yale University since 1993. Much of Crewdson's photos have been displayed in many museums and collections are around the world. This photo is called. "Beneath the Roses." In one image a lone and pregnant woman stands on a wet street corner just before dawn: she is a small but a portentous still point in a world of trajectories. On a stormy night in another nondescript town, a man in a business suit stands beside his car, holding out a hand to the cleansing water in apparent mystification. In a plush bedroom, a man and a woman –prototypes of middle-class American dislocation–are visited by a songbird, who gazes at the woman from its perch on the vanity. Crewdson’s scenes are tangibly atmospheric: visually alluring and often deeply disquieting. Never anchored precisely in time or place, these and the other narratives of "Beneath the Roses" are rather located in the dystopic landscape of the anxious American imagination.

Repulisuve Photo 2

Ok, so we have a lot of pets at my house and every once and a while I find a hairball just floating around on our hardwood floor. I think this is pretty repulsive because of all the hair that builds up in one area and how dusty it can get!

This is a container of left over thanksgiving dinner. I'm not quite sure what it was, but right when I saw it I thought ewwww gross! It's gewy looking and messy and filled with a mixture of textures.

Attractive Photo 2

I think this photo is attractive because of the different glows of colors. It makes the picture unique in a sense that the Christmas lights are bringing shades of color to brighten areas of the picture.

I chose this as an attractive photo because of the different colors in my cat's eyes. There are: greens, browns, golds, olives, and shades of black. I think that this is one of those things that we don't realize right away when we look at something because sometimes the smallest details can be the most interesting and beautiful.

Love is Close and Can Be Far

This montage represents how love can be held in the palm of your hands, but it can often be in the distance and hard to find. I took three pictures for this montage. The first in the background is down a narrow road with woods on either side. The second is another background that I blended into the background to make the sun more visible. The last picture is of my hand holding a heart locket. Combining all these photos together I developed the idea of love being in the palm of one's hands and also being in the distance in a person's life.

Waiting In Time

This photo's theme is waiting in time. The girl in the photo is secluded behind bars and waiting, but she can't go anywhere because time is slow. Her emotions are anticipating something coming for her, but she feels stuck in a moment in time. Everyone has one of those days that just drags on and it feels like your in the same place in time for hours and hours. This girl represents anyone who has a day in their life where it never ends. For this photo I decided that I liked a sepia tone for the photo, it just looked more rustic and eyecatching. I like how the clocks are swirled in a spiral representing neverending time. The clocks are also transparent and blurred so the image behind them can be seen. I think that my photo is unified in its color and I think that's what makes it so unique.

Distant Self Image

This photo is about a person who is trying to find who they are, but there is an obstacle in the way. The symbol for the obstacle is the bright light or sun. I put two images of the same person trying to see eachother, but really the girl on the left is looking for herself. I used vivid color and a contrast in the figures shades of color to match the hues in the distance. I made the figure to the right of the photo smaller so the image is realistic in it's proportion. I also payed close attention to the edges of the two figures so they would blend in with the rest of the scene. I captured a picture that has unity, emphasis on the girl on the left, contrast in color and size, and lastly balance within the photo's shapes.

Lost

For this photo I decided I wanted to portray a theme of being lost. I thought that it would be neat to have a contrasting black and white photo with bright colored signs, to create emphasis on the solid black figure. The girl is walking in the photo and is unsure which way to go. Which way refers to a certain direction in her life that she is confused about, a way that is unknown to her. There are things in her life or "signs" that distract her from knowing the right direction to take. This photo combines, color, emphasis, contrast, and shapes to create unity and bring the photo to life.

Sailboat in the Willows

For this picture I altered the color to give it more vibrance

and put in a sailboat to add a pop of red.

Windy Willow

This picture was taken on a cold and windy day. It had snowed earlier which caused this photo's background to be grey and boring. I think the willow tree brightens up the scene and adds movement throughout the branches of the tree and the waves of the water.
